My "More Car per Car experience" with my Indica

Buying a new car is a special occasion. My first "new" car was a Indica DLE and colour was granite purple. The colour matched my house colour and the grey bumpers more or less matched the body colour.

My dad wanted me to buy a lighter colour like a silver or white so that others can see my car during the evenings and nights.

Decided against all many advises to avoid a Tata and that too a diesel !!

Took the delivery on 11-Nov-2002 from Prerana Motors.

Primarily driven in Bangalore

The served me well for 9 yrs and 100K kms.

Had to sell it as I would have ended up paying road tax again in Telangana

Dad (Pappa)

It more than year since Dad passed away.
Needless to say, I do miss him and miss his wisdom the most.

I only wish he was around to play with his grandson - Nipun
Nipun looks very much like his grandfather

Pappa was a simple person who was respected and loved a lot by everyone he knew - friends, relatives, colleagues.

He had his best days of  his career at Chennai

It was his willpower that helped him fight cancer for 13 yrs

Some of the best photos I have of him

Sep 2011: Memorable Walk to a Hillock

Memorable Walk to a Hillock during monsoon

It was a beautiful September afternoon in 2011.

Somewhere on the road between Bidar and the Ashtur ruins, Karnataka, India

This spot made me stop. I just had to walk to the top the hillock.

View of the hillock from the road and the path leading to it

Along the path were large number of wild flowers thronged by multi-hued butterflies

Then came the small stream of crystal clear water fed by the monsoon rain complete with a check dam

Along the check dam a tree full of waver bird nests

A weaver bird at home

The trek to the top starts

View from the Top

Rock with a tree growing on top of it

More than an year and half after the walk I still remember every step to the top.

2012 - Interesting Trips - Phoenix Saguaro Cactus

Saguaro Cactus:

The most striking thing about Phoenix are the huge cactus called Saguaro.

You can catch a glimpse of these giants right at the Phoenix Sky harbor airport

Saguaro is an Indian word. The correct pronunciation is "sah-wah-ro" or "suh-wah-ro." The formal name is Carnegiea gigantea. It was named for Andrew Carnegie.

Thanks to my colleagues for a nice trip to the south mountain. The mountain range has large number of these
gentle giants. Some snaps I took

2012 - Interesting Trips - Ritual to overcome fear

Banashankari Temple, Banashankari, Karnataka, India

Came across an interesting religious ritual in Banashankari. I had never heard about it earlier.

The ritual is to swim the kid across the temple tank in a contraption that looks like an ancient man powered water bike

The kid has to endure the trip across the tank with a stranger. Must be quite an ordeal.

This is a panaromic view of the tank of the Banashankari temple tank.

I believe the ritual helps the kid to face and overcome difficulty and fear.

Very similar to some simulation training we undergo.

2012 - Interesting Trips: Pattadakal - Mahishasura Mardhini

Pattadakal - Mahishasura Mardhini

Pattadakal was a temple building R&D center of the ages gone by.

A hidden jewel in the huge temple complex is the exquisitely carved idol of Mahishsura Mardhini.

It is easy to miss it as the temple housing the idol is not well lit with natural light or otherwise

2012 - Interesting Trips: Kappe Arabhatta Inscription, Badami

As the 2012 fades into history, it is the time to reflect on what the year had to offer me and what I could made out of it.

Let me start with some interesting snaps and learnings from my personal and official trips

Feb 2012: Badami, Banashankari , Aihole, Patadkal  Karnataka, India

You all would have been to the usual tourist spots in Badami, Banashankari, Aihole and Patadkal.

The below spot is extraordinarily important for the people of Karnataka

Tucked away in the boulders on the other end of the Aihole. To reach the spot you have go through the narrow lanes of the Badami town

Kappe Arabhatta Inscription:

What it means:

Kannada:

and in the English poetic rendering:

"Kind man to the kind,

Whose sweet to the sweet,

Very cruel to the cruel

He was nothing but God Vishnu in this regard"
